Getting ready to hit the road.

That's right We are leaving for the mountains again. A storm is on it's way and that means, snow fun and time to hit the road. This time we rented a house. I find it's much better to do this. Staying at hotels tend to cost a lot of money and then there is the having to eat out and having the tendency to over eat. Causing one to blow any weight control eating you are on.

Well we will be tubing, skiing, snowmobiling, ice-skating and snowshoeing. These winter sports are very good for the body. The winter exercise is great and will involves every muscle in the body.

So I wanted to give you a head up, so you can be on the look out for Real time photo post on Auntie E on the go Blog. I will be sending real time photos, there. You can find it on the side bar on Auntie E's other Blogs.

A New Wii Item So I can eat Holiday foods.

Well I decided with the holidays coming I would get on board the Wii Fit train. So while out I eyed the new Wii Fit EA Active 2. This one has a heart monitor with it. Now that great for me. No more guessing is my heart rate within the target range. Now with all those extra Holiday delights , I can enjoy and just increase the Exercise to maintain the weight.

Wii is a good gift to ask Santa for! It is like having your own trainer when you want them. Even though there are fun games to play, it offers much more. Being able the change it up to be a personal trainer is a plus. Making it a better choice when it come to purchasing electronic games devices.

We purchase the Wii system a couple years ago for Christmas. We loved the Bowling and other games. Then I purchase a Wii Board last year. I like playing the Balancing games.
With the Wii I am able to do....
  • Skiing, now I can do those high jumps and not end up in a Body cast.
  • Skate boarding ,which I would never be able to do, with out breaking a few bones, if not for the Wii.
  • Then there is surfing, I always wanted to do that, only in the water I would probably take in too much water and never be able to stay on that board. Not to mention the concussion I would get from the board hitting me repeatedly.
So as you can see I can do all those thing on my Bucket list without leaving my Family Room! Oh yeah now that's the life. I know it will only be time before we see the 3D version, making it seem like you are really there! Now that's worth waiting for.

Got Evidence: Fat, a Virus????

Can you believe it...... We are already in October. How has your Getting healthy plan worked out so far? I was able to maintain my weight through out the summer. Why is it so hard to lose weight as you get older? Once we pass a certain age we need to get our metabolism going again. Now how can one do that?

I have read various plans from Pills to certain exercise machines. Deciding which one works for you is hard. There was a time when getting old meant sagging parts of the body and weight gain. Remember the old Granny's, Jolly and Plump. Even Santa was Pictured that way. Now in this century Granny's like Mothers and Santa is getting fit. So, the question remains, Now are they doing that?

No I do not have the answer today. I know some tools that can assist us. So for the next couple weeks I will be posting another Got Evidence series. Looking for the ways one stays fit according to today's lifestyle. Can any one achieve this New Granny look or is it just in the Cards dealt one. Is Fat a Virus you catch from others (don't laugh at this one, it was a study done). Does it matter where you live, are there Thin States and Countries. Is your nationality a key factor.

What is your opinion on the subject. Do you think it depends on your genes, or is it just lifestyle? Come on, way in , you might never know how your answer might add to the equation.

Fall Strolling

Now that Fall has officially arrived we can get out to those Festivals and exercise. Fall Strolling ,I call it. We have all sort of festivals going on ; Renaissance, Oktoberfest, Fall Bazaars, And the Williamsburg village fall changes. Let's not forget those walks through the changes of the leaves. Parks are a great place to start the process. Pack a lunch and go. Take the bikes, skates, boards and just a plain walking stick. Whatever your fancy this is the season for starting that walking routine. With the heat behind us and the cool breezes ahead, our walking will be easy body friendly. Oh I just love that cool breeze, well I'm off to the Oktoberfest. As my Hubby Says "and we're walking".

Tuesday Post It

I am always writing on Post it notes. I have a few in my house scattered around in rooms. Supahmommy thought it would be fun to do a post using the Post-It Notes. Supahmommy has a neat link system on her blog go check it out Here.

I have been working on the New Fitness Log blog for a week now. Posting food and exercise logs, as well as sharing some information I learn along the way. After much consideration decided to open it up to all. The process to invite and have people log in seemed too time consuming. My hubby helped me look into the process of someone visiting the page. I did not like the setup. So I will open it up, take a look see if it is something you would like to visit. I do post daily and some times more than once.

Getting Fit with the Wii.

Here we are after Two weekends of Pizza and Birthday cake....I think that Wii board is calling me.
We purchased the board last year. Have to admit I like it. It's the only way I can skateboard, snowboard and skiing downhill with out being killed or breaking bones. I really love the balance games. My favorite is the one where you balance the balls and move slightly to drop them through the holes to different levels. with each level you get more balls added. the music makes it more intense with each level. Just don't be standing by me when I get to the higher levels, it can get wild!

While out shopping for presents we spotted a riser for the board. Thinking of getting one, anyone have a riser? I like doing stepping with the board. Jillian Michaels has a fitness Wii DVD. She is the trainer on The Biggest Loser. Notice she uses the step riser in her program. I think I'll get a better workout with the stepper riser. Now I do not have her DVD. Have Wii Fit, Wii fit plus and EA-Active. These keep me busy. Does any one have Jillian's DVD?

I like to use the Wii to exercise because you never get bored, there are always different mimis helping you along. I have several, Jesus (He keeps me honest), Chuck Norris( Oh he's the Guru of fitness), My Dad (you know when dad's there,it must be done), and my family and their friends (now that is just to feel young again). I need to add some more, Who do you have on your Wii team? Or who would you like to have on that team?

Sleepless in Maryland...

Some time I have these sleepless nights. this is one one those nights! Yesterday I started not feeling well.Think Hubby gave me his cold. I am drinking antioxidants and sucking zinc. Hope that will do the trick and shorten the time.
Yesterday I started the EA Sports 30 day challenge, boy I didn't know how it worked. I made it through the first day routine, not too bad. Each day I will be given a different routine that way I will not get bored, so they say. My trainer is female although I think at some point I would like the male, I wonder if I can change that?
Now I need to find a good food plan. I am a member of Sparks People, they have a menu plan. I think I will try a low carb for a while. At least til I can get on the downward spiral. I really do not like to do those types of diet plans, because they tend to always end up in failure. Learning how to eat within the caloric level is the best way to maintain your weight, in my eyes. I was raised on good wholesome food and would like to continue that way. Although as one ages the body tends to change the way it processes food. I am hoping by working out with the EA sports and controlling my caloric intake I will slim down. We'll see how it works.

Holiday Baggage

Oh that holiday baggage we pack and carry. This holiday season I packed an extra 5 pound in my bag. I believe that is the average amount one picks up during the holidays. Now with the New Year is here and we need to unpack it. My feeling is it will take about two week to get it off. Yes of course one can lose 10 pound in a couple of days. However that is mostly water weight and really doesn't count. I need to loose that fat weight.

So off to the Wii I will go...Then down with the Pilates. Finally out to the treadmill.

With all the friends working on the Wii, I should have lots of support. I might even add some new mimi's to my circle. I heard one can add some cartoon characters, roadrunner might push me along. Do you Wii, Pilates,or treadmill? Let me know, so I can follow your blog.

I am getting on the Wii again. Yes it is time to get back in the Wii game. Got a new trainer and now I feel it is time to start back up. Exercising has not be a steady thing for me. It seems like I have all these home helps but finding the time is so hard. Will need to set aside a time for 30 minutes of some sort of exercising. The ice and rain makes it hard to walk out doors but I guess I could use the Wii and treadmill for that. So here I go, I'm adding 30 minutes of aerobic work to my daily routine.

Santa Goes Green Tree

I managed to get walking in this weekend and a lot a standing. We went to the Festival of Trees. I notice more and more people using the reusable bags. Great for them!

I thought you would love to see a Santa Goes Green tree.
A closer view

I just had to chuckle. Could you imagine getting light bulbs for Christmas from Santa?
Last week I bought some energy saving light bulbs. I was surprise at the cost but, bought them anyway. When I got them home a couple of them would not work. Seems the gas can leek out and they will no longer light. Now I ask, can that gas be bad for the environment? Does any one know?
Hubby bought LED light for the hallway chandelier. They were suppose to last a life time. Who's live time, an aunt? Oh yeah they stopped working after a couple months. All of them stopped. That is why I needed to buy new light bulbs.
I sure hope someone develops one that is energy efficient and doesn't cost 5 to 10 dollars a piece. I can not be paying all this money on them only to last a couple of months! And if the industry is really going to phase out the old type, I'll have to go back to candle light.

Walking the Grand Canyon

While in the Grand Canyon we walked up and down hills. This was the most challenging exercise I did. As You can see the Canyon is huge and with an greater elevation (8000 feet/2438 m above sea level), it makes the walking there more of a work out. My heart rate reached it's burn rate faster, and stayed there the longest.

This kind of walking I like, the scenery changes often and if you keep your eyes opened and looking up, the things to see was a once in a life time sight. As to the California Condor in this Photo. You can enlarge it to really see him.
These birds are rare to see in the Wild, only about 172 in the wild, all live in the Grand canyon region.
In all to plan a vacation with some challenging walking was a great choice.
You can Click on all the photos to enlarge them.

Our guide was great. Some of us walked and he had things for the ones who stayed behind. See the Castle in the background, My daughter and I walked up to the top of it, so many steps.
The exercise was well worth it.
In all to plan a vacation with some challenging walking was a great choice.

If you would like to know more about the California Condors visit A RareSighting.

Now in Colorado, just out side of Denver in the Royal Gorge. We booked a rafting trip with Water Rafting. Boy did we have fun! We did so well that we feel next time we will try a even harder course. No one fell off the boat and we all got plenty wet. The water temp was 50ish so we rented Wetsuits. I have to say I just loved the cold water, it must be my hormones because it felt very nice to me. The trip Down the gorge was 9 Miles, took about 1.5 Hours. The water was the highest it has been in some years. That meant the white water was really swirling.

A Workout Weekend

Saturday I worked up at the pool area. We needed to lay carpet, that meant cleaning the area up. Racking , removing weeds, and adding on the the deck all before laying the carpet. A lot of muscle work indeed. Of course it was in the upper 80s pushing close to the 90s. I did the cleaning work, hubby did the deck work. Adding to the heat we burned some leaves and wood in our pit. So that meant it got hot and I needed to cool off. Into the pool I went! Bathing suit was on under my clothes(knowing I would be doing that, hehe). With Oldie's music playing exercising in the pool came naturally. Well, Hubby could not stand seeing me in the pool alone so he join me. A little break in the yard work is always nice. I was in and out of the pool all day.
Sunday, had family over. The Kids hit the pool and we swam and played. More pool exercise for me! Today my muscle feel it, however I will spend some time pool exercising. So, the exercise ticker moved quite a bit over the weekend.

Exercising On A Trip.

When on a trip all the walking and eating and running and eating can be the downer for one. Trying to choose a Place that has a Exercise room can also be a challenge. Most paces do have pools, great for water aerobics. Now on our trip the Resort was on Cocoa Beach. That meant Walking was on the List of exercise. I walked on the beach and all around the Resort. There was a Antique Auto Show, will blog about that later this week. I took walks viewing them and taking photos every day. Then there was the walking at the Space Center and Museums, more later on that. Walking is the best exercise one can do. Although there is Two things you must do in order not to gain weight, do not eat while you are walking and drink plenty of Water.

The Weekend Project.

It is a rainy Monday, round 5 am now. Had Critter for the weekend. His G-mother walked in the Avon Breast Cancer event. She has Lupus and even in the rain she managed to finish the 39 mile walk! It was over a two day period. the training took months. Walking and running every day to build yourself up was well worth it. I am very proud of her!!
I worked out in the yard over the weekend. There was a time window of no rain. Critter and I moved a fountain from the brick patio to the deck. I really like it there! It has a fog machine with a changing color lights in it. I can see it from the Solarium Room (where I blog ), it is a calming view. Waiting for the birds to find it.
Here is a photo of Critter helping. More photos to see at Auntie E.s Yard and Garden.

Exercising the Pilates Way.

Picture of Joseph Pilates at around age 50!

Pilates Has been around in the United states since 1926. Joseph Pilates moved to New York City in 1926 and opened a studio. It seemed to be a exercise for the actors and dancers. Movie choreographers embraced his matwork exercise, which he called "The Art of Contrology". His style of exercise was very helpful for posture and flexibility. When a lay person first heard of Pilates it was associated with a machine. The kind in Health clubs, too expensive for the common person. Over the years pilates has become more reachable for the common person. Nowadays one can get a machine that is portable! Bringing the Pilates into your own home.

It is not the machine I wish to write about, rather the Matwork. There are 34 original exercises. I have several DVDs and a book called the Pilates Directory. I find the floor exercise to be very good. If you are limited to certain types of exercises , Pilates offers a Very Low impact routine. It is my mode of choice nowadays. I was born with Scoliosis (Curvature of the spine). Because of this condition it is hard for me to do some exercises, my spine is not that limber! I found that when I did Pilates the back did not hurt and I had no aches after a 30-45 minute workout. Pilates main work is to develop a strong center core. Working these muscles help your posture , strengthening the back, and keeping the organs in place. Believe it or not you also loose fat cells, by breath control while preforming the exercise.
Pilates lived til he was 87 years old. Joseph trained several people who carry on his work. And with today technology there is no reason not to try Pilates in your own homes. With in 10 sessions you will feel the difference, by 20 you will notice a change and in 30 you will have a new look!
Run to the store, the Library, or check the internet for DVDs to try out Pilates. Happy Exercising to the New Fit You.

A New ExerciseTool Added

Look up on the Banner. I found this tool in Blogosphere land. Added it to my page in hope of reminding me to exercise. Another way to stay accountable. The goal is to give thirty minutes per day to some sort of exercise. The runner will move daily. Now for your help! When you visit and see the runner in the same place as the day before,Give me a shout. There is a shout box on the right side, under the EC drop box. Simply say: noticed runner not moving or what ever your fancy. Keep in mind my young daughter views this page,so keep it clean. My goal is to loose 10 lbs by June. That I think I can do. Now off to Wii I go!!!
