Our Electric bill at one point was over 700.00! My friends is almost like paying their Mortgage payment. We managed to get it down to 400.00. However that is still too high for me. So now we are looking at another energy source. More to follow....
My question for You:
How high would you let your electric bill go, before you will consider another energy source?

That is a good question. Our electric bill is terrible. I think it went up some from last year. I am glad summer is over and we don't have to crank the air condition. Winter hear is not bad..and we hardly have to use the heat..so that is GREAT!
ReplyDeleteOuch! Our electric bills are almost $300 & we thought that was bad.
ReplyDeleteWe've been looking @ various windmills & solar. We'll probably do a combination thing since we are on the mountain the sun sets behind plus we get lots of wind here.
Given that we have an older house we do not have a lot of options with alternative heating. Something that we could do is add insulation and put new siding to help on the house. We are on a budget plan. Over the summer our bill was just under $200. In the winter it will likely rise to $250. Thank goodness they just announced 13% decrease in natural gas costs from last winter.
ReplyDeleteI think I'd run around turning off lights and turning down the heat first.

We lived in FLA and the AC was crazy high...then MI and I could not help turning UP the heat. Lately, we r in VA and our bills have been lower, but I would rather find alternative energy sources than be really hot or cold...I think it is wise to go solar.
ReplyDeletei don't have an answer for this we don't pay for electricity since we live in a school campus. with the high price of electricity, thank God we are not paying for utilities...
ReplyDeleteI made a switch several months ago to a new provider to help cut costs but I'd probably just drastically cut back on my usage before I would make an enormous change like solar panels.
ReplyDeleteWe are already looking into other resources for The Stone House project.
ReplyDeleteWhat other energy source is there? We have solar and it's still sky high. Oh well. I just make sure stuff is shut off all the time when not in use :)
ReplyDeleteHoly smokes! I'd die if our bill went over $100! I think the highest we had was $92.
ReplyDeleteI don't know... I don't have to pay it, we live in base housing and the military pays the bill.
ReplyDeleteMy sister lives in Colorado and she installed a wood burning stove to heat the house in the winter so she has a very small electric bill.
It hard to determine, because there are not many other options..
ReplyDeleteBUT, I was told that the items you leave plugged in still use energy, even when not turned on? I dont know...
Thanks for stopping by my blog!
If it goes to 300 then we'd have to switch. For the summer it was just under 200.
ReplyDeleteGood question.
ReplyDeleteWe try to be as carefull with energy as possible.
Closing doors, wearing better clothes ans socks, double glasing, nothing plugged in during the night and when we're out but the doorbell and fridge, etc etc.
With a family of 8 I think we're doing fine.
