Thoughtful Thursday- The Blame Game Continues

I have been hearing a lot on the news and reading a lot on the web about this BP Oil accident. How interesting the blame game gets. First we are stunned by the accident, feared for the lives lost and the men hurt. Next the feelings of cleaning up and the environmental impact on the gulf ,its animals and our shorelines. Then the effect it has on the Fishing Boat companies and the employment income of the fishermen and small towns businesses. Later on, the blame game starts. Who is going to pay for the effects this Accident has caused nationwide. The cleanup, Lost income, and the ongoing Lawsuits.
BP seems to be blaming Transocean for the explosion. As stated here:

"Lamar McKay, chairman of BP America, told the first of two Congressional hearings into the environmental catastrophe that it was Transocean which conducted the well drilling operations.

He said Transocean owned the Deepwater Horizon rig and the piece of safety equipment which should have prevented a methane bubble from triggering the fatal explosion on April 20."

Now I ask you, do you think this is a problem caused by BP oil or is it Tranocean's . You see if Transocean is the one who owns the rig and the equipment then shouldn't they be responsible for the Explosion and aftermath cost?

My Husband put is this way.....If you rent a home and the gas line to the home causes an explosion, the renter would not be a fault. The owner would have to file the claim for the insurance and the owner would receive the money. then the owner could be held responsible for the renters losses. Is it the Renter responsibilities to maintain the Gas lines? The renter assumes that the gas lines are safe and that the owner has done their job in creating a safe environment to live and work in.

So now that I have the rest of the story, my question is Who really is at fault and who should be paying for the aftermath of this accident? Any thoughts from you?

Hot or Cold Water?

The other day Hubby was putting water on the stove for Pasta. Noticed he was using Hot water from the faucet . I was taught not to use Hot Faucet Water for cooking. Never told why just not to. Watching several Italian cooking shows they stated the same thing " Always use Cold water for your cooking.". So Why is that?

Well, I looked it up and found out a few things. First off Most homes built before 1986 have copper pipes and lead solder was used to connect the pipes. Some homes in the world still use this kind a piping. The EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) administration stated that hot water will bring with it the metals from the pipes to your faucet. They recommend that you do not consume Hot water for drink purposes. Always use cold water for food preparation and consumption.

Okay now here is the second reason. It's your Hot Water tank. You realize that the tank has corrosive metals in it. Over time it will weaken and burst. Just think that is where the hot water is coming from. The water sits in the tank for days, so when you call it up, by turning on one of the faucet the water has dissolved metals in it already.

Lead poisoning has been getting a lot of attention lately. Some believing it may be the cause of A.D.D.(Attention Deficit Disorder). Hubby stated he has always used Hot water in cooking. Then stated Maybe that is my Problem, now I have Poisoned by brain.
We laugh about it now, but in reality it could be very unhealthy. I always thought you should use Cold water just to make Good Pasta. However by hubby making me give him a Logical answer I learned a lot.

Automatic Dishwasher Detergent is used in most American homes. It has been a hand saving invention since the sixties for us Dishwashers. Is it a good thing? One would think so, huh. Over the years the detergents have gotten better at cleaning without rinsing first. Let's look at some household cleaner ingredients and see how these can effect our home environmental air and health.
When My Mother was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, we started asking questions. How does one get this? My Mothers always wanted to know the Whys of things. Interesting we found out that the research tended to believe that this Deadliest Cancer to women is caused by the environment. So what in our environment could cause this? The search for answers continued.
I found out that most of the products we use in our household to clean, had Carcinogenics products in them. In the next few weeks we will be looking at a few of them. Got Evidence will look at some product we use and see if they are healthy to our environment. Have the companies changed over the years to the good or are they still using Carcinogenics in their products. So come along with me in the search for those healthier Household cleaners.

Did you know that dishwashers ingredients can emit Cancer Causing Vapors in the drying cycle? I found this out a few years ago. Here is some brief info on one of the brands.

Acute Health Effects:	From MSDS Route(s) of Entry: Ingestion, eye contact, inhalation, skin contact. Health Hazards (Acute and Chronic): Ingestion may cause moderate transient gastrointestinal irritation. Heavy or prolonged exposure to breathing dust may cause transient respiratory tract irritation. Prolonged skin contact with undiluted product may result in irritation. Signs and Symptoms of Exposure: Ingestion may result in nausea, vomiting and/or diarrhea. Eye contact may cause stinging, tearing, itching, swelling and/or redness. Inhalation may cause coughing, sore throat, wheezing or transitory shortness of breath. Prolonged skin contact may result in redness, itching and irritation. Medical Conditions Generally Aggravated by Exposure: Pre-existing dermatitis conditions may be aggravated by prolonged contact with the product.
Chronic Health Effects:	From MSDS Heavy or prolonged exposure to breathing dust may cause transient respiratory tract irritation. Prolonged skin contact with undiluted product may result in irritation.
Carcinogenicity:	The manufacturer's Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) does not state whether the ingredients are considered carcinogens or potential carcinogens.

This is just on one product I used on a regular basis. I considered it the best in dishwasher products. I will speak more about this in the next few days. so off for more research to share with you. Working toward a Healthier home environment for all.
