Going Green Update.

Here we are another record month. We received our Energy bill and it was 107.00. that is so good, Normally it is over 200.00 for this month. For two years it has been 107! We have had the Solar since November 2009. Our savings have been great. The energy bills have been cut in almost half. We are now getting ready to have a thermal solar system put in. That will start sometime in the Fall. We are looking forward to even more saving.

With the Solar comes REC's. (Renewable Energy Credits). We have a company who we sell our REC's to. With the Check amount it turn out that we really pay very little on our energy. We had a yearly cost of 2850.89 for energy consumption with the solar. Minus the REC's received from the company we ended up for the years' energy, paying 610.89. Not bad. divide that into 12 months and that ends up costing about 51.00 per month.

Our prior Energy bill before solar was 5103.97 yearly! With a pre-solar cost of 425.33 per month. that is an 88 percent savings. Now how great is that! On top of reduce the carbon imprint. So as you can see it was well worth it. Now with the addition of the Thermal Solar we will be able to save even more. On top of that, Maryland has passed the bill to allow selling of the Thermal REC's. Our company will also buy them.

We are still doing well with our bags and recycling. Have notice only one garbage can to be picked up and that isn't even filled.

Still looking for ways to conserve energy in the summer months. I will be blogging about those later on.

So, How are you doing?

Headed out again.-- Yearly Trek!

It is that time again to head down south. This is our yearly trek to Florida. As I mentioned on my AT Home with Auntie E blog, we head there to attend a memorial for my Grandfather and many other Fallen Police Officers. Placing flowers at their names on the Memorial Wall of Fame in Titusville, for they truly are heroes.

This year we have made arrangements to go to Discovery Cove. We are looking forward to that visit. I little down time for us. I am eager to learn more about their Eco-friendly world. I will be on the look out for the type of solar systems they use. As well as if they are as Eco-Friendly as they should be. Being in the deep south I would think they should be more than we can here in the North.

Be on the look out for real time photos and info on my Auntie E's On the Go blog. there I send real time photos.

In The News-A Shutdown Pending?

Lately listening to the news has been a downer. Hearing about this possible shut down is not a pleasant thought. It has me wondering what these elected officials are thinking. Do they relize that we are close to a recession or that folks are struggling with putting food on their table and a roof over their head. How about the folks who are close to bankruptcy.
Oh yes the Elected Officials do not lose any pay, due to the constitution. It states that we can not with hold their pay or dock their pay. Even though I understand that provision, It angers me.

They have had all this time to pass this budget bill. To hold it up on what we call "Riders" is just crazy. My thought is just get rid of them and just focus on the budget. Those Riders should be a different matter. I think that is the main problem in passing bills, Too Many Riders and Pork in these bills. Probably because one could not get them through on their own merits.

If the Government does shut down, folks where I live will be severely effected. Military families and government families will be close to losing their homes. Not being able to get the pay back will put them in a more financial bind. With little Jobs available here, there is no way to bounce back.

What are these Officials thinking? Hey we are out here and are depending on you to do YOUR JOB in the time allowed. You all are not succeeding well.

I just heard that it is all about Funds to Plan Parent Hood! What are they thinking. We should not be giving them funds in the first place. In a nation of debt, we should be cutting out the extras. We passed a health bill, why on earth do we need to pay a Private business too?

Come on folks, put your two cents in. Let me know what you think about this issue?

I use to be a disaster spoke person for American Red Cross. With so many types of disasters happening around the world, it got me thinking. Do you know what type of disasters you could face, and are you prepared for it?
Let's make a List of ones happening in today's world;
  • Tornado's
  • Hurricanes
  • Floods
  • Earthquakes
  • Tsunami's
  • Nuclear
  • Fires
  • Chemical explosions
  • Sink Holes
  • Gas Explosions

All of these are very commons today. You would be surprise at the ones that can happened where you live and work. So the question remains.... Do you know which ones can happened where you live and work and what to do in the disasters? Can you survive any of them?

The answer for me is a live and work in an area that can have floods, Hurricanes, Tornadoes,Earthquakes, fire, gas explosions, chemical spills, Gas Explosions, sink holes, and fires. To be prepared I have a first aid kit, and an area where I always keep me purse and an everything bag. Ready to grab at all times. All my numbers and info in those things. My car is always filled with gas and ready to go. A couple way to escape and a few places to go. I need to work on have a meeting place and a three month supply of prescription meds that my hubby. is on.
