Got Evidence- On hold, A question of thought?

My household has been crazy with Pulmonary embolisms and a blood clot in the heart. So I have not had the time to do the research I have wanted to do. Still planning on doing this research on organic versus regular products. I will be looking into it this weekend and prepare an Got Evidence for next Thursday.

A question of thought for today, Do you think Organic Raw Vegetables are better then Regular grown ones? With all the FDAs regulations the growers need to follow, perhaps there really is no difference. Think about this, we have had more cases of illness and death due to fresh vegetable since the push for organic has increased.

What is your thought on this subject?

Got Evidence- Man Made Chemicles?

In this series of Got Evidence we are going to look into the question "Are Chemicals good for your Body". One thing I have notice is the push for folks to buy Organic. Why is this are the Preservatives/ chemicals used in the others bad for our bodies?

I noticed that a skin problem I had a while back has returned. This got me thinking what is the cause. Thought I new what it was. Then I noticed that a product I had been using for a while had changed their ingredients to a Chemical produced sweetener. The Old one did not have it. If the Companies are changing ingredients from Natural to Man Made Chemicals, we should be looking into the Health of it.

I have stopped using the product and the skin problem is receding. Now in fairness of the companies I will not be mentioning names, only the chemicals themselves. The main question I am going to explore is, Are the Chemicals good for our Bodies. So, for the next few weeks in October I will be doing the research to find that out. Check back on Thursdays to see what I learned.

Now I have a question for you. Do you think the Man made chemicals are healthy for you? If you have a question on a certain chemical please leave it in the comments and I will certainly explore it.

Preparing for the Winter Months.

We have decided to postpone the thermal solar project. Looking into adding to our solar panels, that might be a better option. The newer ones can be easier added and no inside work needs to be done. Right Now funds are tight, and with the problem with the government funding we need to be more cautious with ours.

We are still doing well with the solar. Saving about 1/2 of Utilities expenses. Still working on our indoor lighting and electrical uses. With the winter approaching we will need to work on the heating options. We use a pellet stove for most of our heating. It is a cleaner alternative for the environment. I will be making room for the winter pellets. Pellet stoves also help in not allowing the auxiliary heat of the furnace come on. Which causes the utility cost to soar. We are expecting a colder Winter this year.

With all the wet weather there has been a higher chance of mold and mildew. Therefore we had our air ducts and furnace cleaned. This is something that should be done at least every 3 to 5 years. Found that they were pretty nasty. Had them done about 3 years ago. However this year they were in bad condition. Were told with all the weather conditions, Hurricane and heavy rain the water basin table is high. That causes the humidity in the basement to be higher. So , we have a dehumidifier going to help with the extra moisture. If you have never had your ducts and furnace clean , you should look into it. There are many specials going on now.It is important to maintain a healthier indoor airflow.

We also had a Ultraviolet light installed to kill the viruses and mold growth. We are replacing the filter regularly as well as using a good 3M one.

Looking into an alternate Green power.

Going Green takes some research, I love thinking Green Acres on a green scene.

We have been looking into a whole house gas generator. Have have several folks out for quotes. I have to say it is very costly. Not sure our outages warrants one.

So, we had a solar load assessment done to see about a solar backup. It turn out that a solar backup would not be a good choice either. The running time would a short and the cost is about the same as the gas generator. We might be looking at adding to our solar panels and a gas generator. Combining the two on a contract. that way we take take advantage of the incentives.

However, we will have to look into a few more things.

Our solar power is doing us very well. Saving money and making us look into some newer green options.

Will keep you all informed on our decisions. Still looking to do Thermal solar for our water heater. The date has been push back for that.

Going Green Update.

Here we are another record month. We received our Energy bill and it was 107.00. that is so good, Normally it is over 200.00 for this month. For two years it has been 107! We have had the Solar since November 2009. Our savings have been great. The energy bills have been cut in almost half. We are now getting ready to have a thermal solar system put in. That will start sometime in the Fall. We are looking forward to even more saving.

With the Solar comes REC's. (Renewable Energy Credits). We have a company who we sell our REC's to. With the Check amount it turn out that we really pay very little on our energy. We had a yearly cost of 2850.89 for energy consumption with the solar. Minus the REC's received from the company we ended up for the years' energy, paying 610.89. Not bad. divide that into 12 months and that ends up costing about 51.00 per month.

Our prior Energy bill before solar was 5103.97 yearly! With a pre-solar cost of 425.33 per month. that is an 88 percent savings. Now how great is that! On top of reduce the carbon imprint. So as you can see it was well worth it. Now with the addition of the Thermal Solar we will be able to save even more. On top of that, Maryland has passed the bill to allow selling of the Thermal REC's. Our company will also buy them.

We are still doing well with our bags and recycling. Have notice only one garbage can to be picked up and that isn't even filled.

Still looking for ways to conserve energy in the summer months. I will be blogging about those later on.

So, How are you doing?

Headed out again.-- Yearly Trek!

It is that time again to head down south. This is our yearly trek to Florida. As I mentioned on my AT Home with Auntie E blog, we head there to attend a memorial for my Grandfather and many other Fallen Police Officers. Placing flowers at their names on the Memorial Wall of Fame in Titusville, for they truly are heroes.

This year we have made arrangements to go to Discovery Cove. We are looking forward to that visit. I little down time for us. I am eager to learn more about their Eco-friendly world. I will be on the look out for the type of solar systems they use. As well as if they are as Eco-Friendly as they should be. Being in the deep south I would think they should be more than we can here in the North.

Be on the look out for real time photos and info on my Auntie E's On the Go blog. there I send real time photos.

In The News-A Shutdown Pending?

Lately listening to the news has been a downer. Hearing about this possible shut down is not a pleasant thought. It has me wondering what these elected officials are thinking. Do they relize that we are close to a recession or that folks are struggling with putting food on their table and a roof over their head. How about the folks who are close to bankruptcy.
Oh yes the Elected Officials do not lose any pay, due to the constitution. It states that we can not with hold their pay or dock their pay. Even though I understand that provision, It angers me.

They have had all this time to pass this budget bill. To hold it up on what we call "Riders" is just crazy. My thought is just get rid of them and just focus on the budget. Those Riders should be a different matter. I think that is the main problem in passing bills, Too Many Riders and Pork in these bills. Probably because one could not get them through on their own merits.

If the Government does shut down, folks where I live will be severely effected. Military families and government families will be close to losing their homes. Not being able to get the pay back will put them in a more financial bind. With little Jobs available here, there is no way to bounce back.

What are these Officials thinking? Hey we are out here and are depending on you to do YOUR JOB in the time allowed. You all are not succeeding well.

I just heard that it is all about Funds to Plan Parent Hood! What are they thinking. We should not be giving them funds in the first place. In a nation of debt, we should be cutting out the extras. We passed a health bill, why on earth do we need to pay a Private business too?

Come on folks, put your two cents in. Let me know what you think about this issue?

Friday Question=Are You Prepared?

I use to be a disaster spoke person for American Red Cross. With so many types of disasters happening around the world, it got me thinking. Do you know what type of disasters you could face, and are you prepared for it?
Let's make a List of ones happening in today's world;
  • Tornado's
  • Hurricanes
  • Floods
  • Earthquakes
  • Tsunami's
  • Nuclear
  • Fires
  • Chemical explosions
  • Sink Holes
  • Gas Explosions

All of these are very commons today. You would be surprise at the ones that can happened where you live and work. So the question remains.... Do you know which ones can happened where you live and work and what to do in the disasters? Can you survive any of them?

The answer for me is a live and work in an area that can have floods, Hurricanes, Tornadoes,Earthquakes, fire, gas explosions, chemical spills, Gas Explosions, sink holes, and fires. To be prepared I have a first aid kit, and an area where I always keep me purse and an everything bag. Ready to grab at all times. All my numbers and info in those things. My car is always filled with gas and ready to go. A couple way to escape and a few places to go. I need to work on have a meeting place and a three month supply of prescription meds that my hubby. is on.

Click on this LINK the view the 6 minutes video of the Tsunami as it is happening and then click on the Google link to see the street before the event. This is so powerful!

Due to the copyright issue I did not post the video on my site, the link to James' site is both in the word link and the hypertext.
Update: it has now been released from the copyright to be posted.

Spring Cleaning Routines?

Now that Phil has told us spring will be arriving early, Do you have a Spring Cleaning routine?

This year I will be making a list of things to do. Both inside and outside. this will be the first year I really do this however, I feel that the list will make it easier to get ready for the Spring.
thinking about planing to do one room at a time. Now I have seventeen rooms. Now I could do this list on the day that the outside weather is not great.
I will have a outside list also, to be done on the days the weather is great.
Let's see there are 14 weeks until June. If i plan on doing two rooms a week and two outdoor thing, I should be done by May. The will give me time to enjoy the Spring and Summer months.

So do you have a routine plan for Spring Cleaning?

Tuesday Tell All- Why Are You Here?

Here's one for you.....One calls the doctor office complaining about a sore throat, low grade fever and having trouble swallowing . First off our primary physician can not see you, no openings in the office of five doctors! So they send you to an urgent care facility. Now you need to get a referral so that the insurance will pay them. On the referral it stated why you are there and what you are to be seen for. Once you get to urgent care, they take the referral, lay it aside and ask why you are here. Now you tell them exactly what's on the referral. Now one pays their co-pay and wait to be seen be a nurse. Who then ask you, why you are here. Now you go to a room wait for 15 minutes and a second nurse comes in. Asking why you are here, then takes a couple samples. You wait another 15 minutes, the Doctor comes in asking why you are here. Looks at your throat, listening to your lung through your clothes. Then says, well the tonsils look fine, no flu and no strep. Just rest and do you need a school excuse? Now that's a Routine doctor!

Now this really happened to us. I was stunned! First of all, my daughter does not have any tonsils.they were removed years ago! Second, I could see the throat was red with streaks and puss, swollen and she was truly sick. Now that was on Thursday of last week. She still is sick, with fever and sore throat.

What has happened to our medical system.... Where are all the good doctors.... What happened to the family practice doctors? Some where in the last decade we have let the medical industry go downhill. Doctors seem to be coming from every nation, with very little bedside manners and has not mastered of the American English language. It is getting harder to communicate with them. Most of the time I can not even understand them, due to their thick accent, and most important they can not understand us. We have to repeat our selves several times to a lot of folks. What happen to writing it down to be read by the next person? or can these folks read English? or Write English?

I remember a day when we had great doctors. Ones that knew you from childhood, even from birth . We could call the doctor and get seen that day for illness. Now-a-days one can make a well appoint for three months out and then within three more months get the result from that appointment! making a routine appointment lasting over 6 months! Everything is specialized. Your doctor has to send you to one that will be able to service your needs. The trouble is it takes months to get in!

Well as you can see, I am frustrated with the whole Medical system here. Yesterday I called to get my daughter in to be seen by her family doctor, an American lady that I can understand. However no appointments available for her that day or today. So I get to take my daughter to be seen by a doctor from India, who has a thick accent and I can not understand her. Now I have nothing against her county or her. However it does make it hard to communicate with her on a medical realm. I will have to ask my questions twice and listen so carefully and ask her to repeat it.

I really miss the old time Doctors. This new system is so frustrating for me. I would like to know where all the American doctors are going. Now this is one reason that I do not go to the doctors myself. I have very little faith in them. I feel one can be so sick and spend lots of money to be told you're find no flu or strep. And them die of Walking Pneumonia or some other curable disease. Then the folks say... Why didn't you take them to the doctors? Only to find out you did!

So why is the Malpractice insurance so high......well that's another door to open later. Pandora's box has many doors. Once one gets opened it causes a rift in time and the right door is never found.

Going Green Updates-Our Solar Story.

Here we are in a new year. As many of you know we have a solar system in our home. It was installed in November 2009. We have really reaped the rewards from it. Our lifetime Watts produce to this day are:

Lifetime energy=8,560 kWh (this is from November2009 to Feburary2011)

We have reduced your carbon footprint by: 14,206 pounds of CO₂ (year to date)

Now that is equivalent to:
1. Not driving 14,068 miles in a standard car.
2. Planting 158 seedlings grown for 10 years.

As far as dollar savings. Our electric bill has been almost cut in half. Some Months are under 120.00. We haven't seen that since we moved into this home, which was in the year 1999.

Getting use to using the solar system is teaching us to look at all the electric we use in this household. After about one year, that would be November 2010, we started looking at the usage in the home. Changing out light bulbs and cutting back on the amount we waste. Our bills have been going down even lower.

In the winter there is a draw back. Mr Sun doesn't always want to shine, and the snow can cover the panels and the temps do not let the snow melt as fast. These can cause a lower amount of solar energy to be delivered. Therefore February is our lowest amount produced. February tends to be the snow month for our region. We produce about half the amount as in the summertime. Even with the winter issue, we enjoy the knowledge that we are saving on the environment as well as our pockets.

Overall we are pleased with the solar system in place. That makes us look for more solar options in other lighting out doors. Saving even more on the electric bill and enviroment.

Editorial -What is Wrong Here Folks?

Today I opened my e-mail and found a link to Brents, founder of Linkytools, post.

Titled..

Now I did publish an Got Evidence post on this subject last week. One thing I did mention is that I really did enjoy using His service. If you have time read the post(the link is in the hypertext above). I do not want to quote from it, just in case someone get the wrong idea.

Brent makes good sense in his article. I really can not see why other folks cut his service down. In all my dealings with him, he has been quick to help and given out tons of free advice. I think Brent did us a great service for the free years. Now as to a paying service.

A while ago as I just starting out blogging, I really could not see paying for services. It was just a hobby and a way to meet new folks in a social network frame. Why would I pay for that? Oh yeah that was my thought back then. However in my third year in blogging, I can now see the advantage of Paying for a good service. One that will help you when a question arises. As well as have a stable social network site. Brent is that person. Now I am not saying this because I am being paid for of getting any kick backs. I read the article and started to think, just maybe folks got that wrong idea on my former post.

I am not putting down Brent for going to a paid service. I believe at some point folks need to realize, free can not stay free and work well forever. If one is to really blog and hold down a following , they will need to consider paying for a social service at some piont.

Remember when Facebook was rumored to start paying for they service? Folks went crazy. There is just something wrong with this picture. Why is it we all want everything free. If Something says FREE, Everyone Flocks to it. I might add here just to get the free thing. Now do they come but and support the business later? Statistics show only about 15% or less actually return to the business. We have grown up in a Free society and now look what we have become.

Perhaps, we aught to look at the financial mess we are in and consider helping out business online as well as in the public realm. Two dollars a month is not a bad price. Heck one spends more on a cup of coffee and it's gone in about 5 minutes and no social response or lasting relationship come from that cup. Just a full stomach til we have to buy the next cup. Think about that folks.

Brent I commend you on not allowing the Cyber-bullies dictate your business moves. I think you do a great job and wish you a lot of success. I know you will give great support to those staying and the new one joining. Maybe even to those who will be returning in the future.

Got Evidence? "MckLinky is turning to a paid service" .

Well, it has come to the end of a Free Link service I used. While visiting another link site I used I saw a message.
"MckLinky is turning to a paid service with rough terms (pay or they delete your links),......".
This surprised me.. where have I been? I didn't know anything about this! So of course I had to find out what the hype was about. Where is the evidence to this statement.

Went to my account at Mcklinky, now known as Linky Tools, to check this out. I found this message

ADMINISTRATIVE MESSAGES:

*

VERY IMPORTANT MESSAGE:

Linky Tools has grown to over 16,000 users and I can no longer continue to pay all the expenses out of my own pocket to keep it free as I have done for a couple of years. Ads and donations are not working. I have to go to a subscription service.

To keep your account from being DEACTIVATED on February 7th, please go here and read this notice. THIS IS A GENERAL INFORMATION NOTICE... IF YOU HAVE PAID, YOU'RE GOOD TO GO.

Now I get it, Free things Must come to an end. Free is really always limited and mostly timed stamped at that.

Undecided on whether I will pay this service for continuing. Sometime ago I got frustrated with having to redirect folks to another site and then hoping that they will return to my blog to comment. This patterned I just did not like. Most folks, including me, will sometimes just move on to the next name on their list or blog in their Que.
I started looking for a link tool that would not redirect my visitors. I found one that was free to use. However every free service has a paid version that gives more tools to use. At some point one need to make that move. Free services always has Limits.

Inlinkz was one of my choices. Used it for awhile as a free service. Then later paid for the service. I wanted to use more of this service and not be limited on how much I could use. Their price is not bad it was under 20 dollars for one year. Now Mcklinky is charging 24.00 for one year. It is true He has more to offer than Inlinkz. However I had to look at the features I use and I felt that Inlinkz was a better choice for me.

I really did like Mcklinky, now called Linky Tools, Brent, the creator, has a lot of link types and hops going on. I do not think the cost is too bad. I am not a user of all the tools he has available. Therefore I am not eager to pay at this time. And the one thing that really turn me off right now is the Redirect of the Visitor to link up. I know he has some features that automatically puts the visitor back to your page. However even that is not to my liking. It takes too long to return the visitor and some time it can just timeout. There are always bugs to work out on these Link sites. Brent does a good job on staying up on these bugs. Weighting the pros and cons of the two, I still choose Inlinkz at this time.

Now, so I do not loose my links from his service, I have to export them to each of my blog post. This work needs to be done by the 21st of this month. So I will be busy deciding on the ones to export and the one to just let go. To be deleted by Brent as he deletes my account. One will still be able to link on the blogs who use his service.

If you want more information on this Move by Linky Tools here is a link for you....
The Yearly Subscriptions by LinkyTools
( this will explain it further for you)

Now if you are interested in Inlinkz, here is the link to that site.

Tuesday Tell All- When things happen

Ever have something go wrong and just can't figure out way? Well, that's what happened to me. Back in November I was trying to get someone to go on a trip with me. I really wanted to go, just not by myself. Asked so many family members and some friends. The problem was it was a fourteen day trip. Most folks work or have business that they can not in this economy afford to be gone that long. It was a trip of a lifetime for me. When I lived in Europe I was able to go to a lot of places. Rome, Venice, Prague, Budapest, Black forest, Switzerland, Paris, Amsterdam and many other places. While in Asia we visited the South seas area. Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and all over Korea. There are still a few other places I would love to visit. England, Ireland, and the Middle East area.

However when I had the opportunity to go to The Mideast, that enlighten my senses. The trip was a fourteen day trip to Egypt. Cairo, Aswen, Abu Simbel, Kitchener's Island, a Four day cruise on the Nile and many other stops. Well things happen for a reason. If I had gone on that trip I would be there now. It left on the 23rd of January. Let me tell you a secret....My Lord looks after me. I am convinced that's the reason it didn't work out. He was keeping me safe. I have been in war zones and it is not a comforting feeling.

Now all the folks that went on that trip were able to get out of Egypt and arrive safely in another country. They will be making their way back this week. Do not think they got to go on the cruise on the Nile. For I was told they were in Israel during that time frame.

Now the next trip I am looking forward to is Israel. Hope the conflict will be calmer by then.

Can you remember when thing just didn't work out and afterward you knew why?

Getting ready to hit the road.

That's right We are leaving for the mountains again. A storm is on it's way and that means, snow fun and time to hit the road. This time we rented a house. I find it's much better to do this. Staying at hotels tend to cost a lot of money and then there is the having to eat out and having the tendency to over eat. Causing one to blow any weight control eating you are on.

Well we will be tubing, skiing, snowmobiling, ice-skating and snowshoeing. These winter sports are very good for the body. The winter exercise is great and will involves every muscle in the body.

So I wanted to give you a head up, so you can be on the look out for Real time photo post on Auntie E on the go Blog. I will be sending real time photos, there. You can find it on the side bar on Auntie E's other Blogs.

Editorial-Saving Money--Senate Bill.

I heard the other day about a Bill in the senate to incorporate a mandatory non paid two week vacation for all government workers. This surprised me, What is that Senator thinking? He says it will save money, a lot of it.
In this economy mandating a two week non paid vacation, just doesn't make sense.

First of all, Most government employees are hired on a yearly salary. It is divided into 26 payments and they are paid every two weeks. So you can see that there is no way to save money. The employees would still be making the same amount in pay, just probably divided into 25 payments. I do not think they can lower the employees salary contact with them.

Another problem I see is just making it mandatory to take unpaid vacation will not solve the problem. More people will have to be hired to cover for the Vacationing employee. Since the Vacationing Employee will not be on call! No, that can not save money. More people hired mean more money spent. As it is now the government to sizing down. Employees are doing the job of now Three people! That makes them a valuable asset. Having one gone for two weeks untethered to the jobs' needs. Unable to be called back at a moment notice or conferencing over a communication mode, would be a downside to this plan.

A better solution in my opinion is to let the Civilian Contacts Go. The cost is high for them. Not to mention the government have very little control over the contractors. I think that would save a lot of money. However that also would effect the economy. We would have a lot of folks out of work. Not to mention they would have to hire more government employees to cover the lost workers. So I do not know a solution.

So what is the solution to the government saving money to pay down the National Debt? Well, if some one who is out there knows, They would be very Rich!

A new series--Tuesday Tell All!

So, this series is about telling all those secrets I have found out there. The kind that will enhance our lives. I call them secrets because you might not have heard of them before. This being a new year and on top of that, we are entering a new decade! There are so many new things to learn and some old ones to uncover.

Ever thought about the old times. When our Granny's looked like the Mrs Clause. Plump and jolly, in the kitchen baking cookies and sweets for the Grand-kids. Oh, and of course spoiling them rotten. Their ages were between 50 and 60,s. Now Have you seen the new 50's and 60's? What is the secret to their young looking appearances? It is getting hard and hard for the Carnival age guesser..to guess their correct age!

Let's see to start out with, our cleansers, moisturizers and makeup have anti-aging products in them now. Helping our skin keep its youthful look. We love the hairdressers and that no.32A color in a bottle. There is a trend in eating healthier things, like omega 3 items and Whole wheat products. Or should I say we are reading more labels on the food entering our bodies. Our obsession with Exercising has increased. More 50+ year old's are doing outdoor activities. Like hiking, skiing, white water canoeing, marathons and many other sports. Well just this past years Winter Olympics we had an in his late 40's guy join the Curling team! I think he was around 48! The statement was made by Newscasters, that more older folks are entering this game. I wouldn't mind playing it myself! Even in the Ice Skating arena there are older folks reentering the competition.

So, I am seeing a Secret emerging ..... It is to stay active. No more Granny's in the Kitchen cooking those Cookies and sweets. They are out with the Grand-kids, enjoying a Second Childhood. Oh yes, Now you know their secret.

Now this can be bad or good. Have learned over the years to really accept myself. I am design like this for a purpose, just need to find that purpose.

Here we are entering a New Year, can you believe it 2011. Never thought I would live to this date. But then again what kid growing up in the sixties ever thought of the year 2000? It was just a song! Remember in the year 2000, folks thought we would not have computers and our cars would stop running , the government would shut down and Our world as we knew it would change. Ha.. that did not happen. Instead we got smaller Cell phone, devices to download and read books from, cars that can run on solar as well as electric and gas and most important the ability to put Solar and Geothermal in private homes. Wow I would say that the two thousands years has progressed fairly well.

Here we are eleven years later and still living on this earth. No solar flare, sun still in place, cars still running and the Government...well, that is still out there. So one thing I would like to encourage you to do this New Year is ; Find something that would be easy for you to change.
I will help you with some Ideas:

1. Change your laundry detergent to a more environmental friendly one.
2. Buy a Water collector barrel to harvest the water for Gardening.
3. Grow your own Vegetables
4. Cut back on the car mileage , take the train or carpool twice a week.
5. Add a solar product to your home or yard.
6. Replace flooring with an eco-friendly material
7. Learn to Read labels on food items
8. Exercise twice a week
9. Read one book a month
10. Learn something new monthly

There you have it ten ideas. All within reach. Let's begin this New Year 2011 with a plan to Make our Lives Healthy and Our Environment Healthier.
